Training - Working In Medium Risk Confined Spaces

Introduction

This course aims to give learners the knowledge, understanding and basic skills in working effectively in confined spaces. It introduces learners to the hazards and risks involved with working in medium risk confined spaces and to comply with health and safety legislation. The target audience is aimed at those working in the construction or utilities industry.

Performance Objectives

  • Accurately identify the need for medium risk confined space working methods
  • Ensure preparations for medium risk confined space work are in accordance with
    instructions, relevant codes of practice and organizational procedures
  • Assess the risks of working in the medium risk confined space accurately and select the
    appropriate working methods
  • Select and use the appropriate equipment, check that it is functioning correctly,
    calibrated, and that it is suitably maintained for medium risk confined space work
  • Carry out the correct pre-entry checks and procedures
  • Place warning signs and barriers in appropriate locations
  • Carry out all work in accordance with environmental and relevant health and safety
    legislation, risk assessment requirements and company policies
  • Communicate effectively with others throughout your work
  • Monitor the safety of working conditions continuously in accordance with organisational
    procedures and codes of practice
  • Where appropriate, initiate safety and emergency procedures promptly and effectively in
    accordance with organisational requirements and codes of practice
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records as required by relevant legislation and the
    organisation

SAFE PRACTICE

It is the responsibility of the centre, in consultation with the trainer and assessor, to ensure that risk assessments have been carried out. During this training you must take account of the relevant worksite operational requirements, procedures and safe working practices.

ACCREDITATION

Upon successful achievement learners will be issued with a Smart Awards certificate valid for 3 years.


ASSESSMENT

The assessment will test the learners knowledge and skills in the safe use of abrasive wheels. Learners will be assessed on the hazards and risks involved with abrasive wheels operation and health and safety
